Sounds great Cas - fingers crossed for you .
You are right - there is a lot more to parenting, but I have a sneaking
supicion that you might be able to get away with a little bit more
"benevolent neglect" (read, less daytime demands) if kids have that night
time closeness -if that is what they want.

Re - I don't actually know too many adults or children

We really can't measure things like trust and empathy that are prerequisites
for forming relationships, so we cant really unequivocally say "people arent
affected" just as we cant say there is no harm in letting babies "cry it
out". Actually there is a vast difference between no proof of harm and
"proof of no harm" - perhaps a bit of night time closeness is easy
insurance that needs are met, whether we can prove this or not. Maybe if we
had this closeness when we were babies and children, we wouldnt find it so
stressful to meet our babies and children's needs -unconditionally and
without ambivalence.

best wishes with the sleep.
