Hi Sue, even being "legal" doesn't help sometimes. A few months ago I had a woman whose doc had written the blood forms for a pprivqte path lab who had a weekend 24hr service in a private hospital. I had previously tee'd it all up... no problems! On Friday night after the baby was born I took the blood to where I was told they would process it. (wandered around the dark hospital floors looking for the lab because the receptionist couldn't find the lab tech. ) Next morning I rang for results. No, they didn't do it there, so that morning had sent it to a lab in a hospital 20kms north. They eventually processed it sat afternoon but wouldn't give me the anti d because it had to go to the doctor who wrote the form. the doc's surgery was closed for the weekend and I was unable to make a connection with her back-up doc. I rang the blood bank & explained the situation. They wouldn't budge. I rang the hospital she was closest to. they couldn't give it to me without the GP's authority. I rang the hospital where the blood was processed (they know me there).. again no luck. It seemed that I would have to wait until Monday morning when the blood bank would courier the anti-d to the docs surgery who would notify me & I could pick it up from there. I knew that by then we would be running out of hours. In desperation I rang a large public hospital where the woman was booked in for back-up. They could only do it if the results were faxed to them first & the consultant scientist O/K'd it. This happened and I was able finally to give the woman the anti-D. All that to get Anti-D for a woman who should have easy access to it! good luck next time. Cheers, Mary M
