And yet, you have to write a whole bunch of code
to suppress this behavior.  And since -- as you
said -- it makes no difference ... why bother?
Just let the little indicator do it's own thing.
Unless you are really crunched for screen real
estate, in which case you shouldn't have a shift
indicator at all and you'll have to make your
case on that basis.
