Um... no. I think you're reading too much into it. We technically
*can't* support the use of hacks, because they change the way the OS works,
and we'd be in QA hell if we tried to verify every app with every hack.
Platinum verification for apps is hard enough without adding in hundreds of
permutations of the APIs. Hacks are, by definition, unsupported and
unsupportable.

Off the record, unofficially, and strictly on the Q T: I really like a lot
of the hacks, and love that HackMaster exists to manage them. I try to be
as clear as possible about what works now and what's likely to change so
that hackers can at least hack with good information. Also, I think the
fact that you guys can recognize a problem, diagnose it, and whip up a hack
that patches it so quickly is a tribute to the talent and energy out there
-- I'm glad you guys are working on PalmOS, and I'll keep doing what I can
to help with that sort of thing. (And, admittedly, I've learned a lot of
esoterica about the OS by tracking down problems described on this list,
and that helps me do my real job.)

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that StreakHack totally fixes the problem --
it appears that some other apps which change (hack) the screen depth seem
to cause the timing to revert to the faster (streaky) state. So writing a
hack or an OS update is that much harder... <sigh>

Anyway, by now you should know better than to expect any answer other than
"we have no announcements at this time." :)
