i am well aware of the KVM.. i WAS at JavaOne..

i got my PalmV.. played with it.. it seemed to have potential, and i
was not saying that you should not move that way.. eventually it
will be more feasable.. right now, there is still a lot of work that
needs to be done on KVM..

writing for KVM is not going to be like writing for JDK.. not all
the classes are there.. where does the platform independance go then?
if i write a Java program on Win98 - technically, it should move
  to PalmOS without any modifications..

of course, that is not possible right now.. one day it might be.
unless of course you wish to stick only to the Palm device, and
use what they give you right now.

there are other Java virtual machines for the Palm.. Sun has made
a big step releasing KVM at JavaOne..

but "obfuscation" does not 100% protect your code.. i have seen the
works of what Dash-O and other products do, the code is still there,
just not as readable as it was before it was compiled.. you can still
follow the code if you know what you are doing (just like the discussion
with hackers - those lovely 68k assembler programmers)..

there are also some nice obfuscation tools that confuse the decompilers,
which are nice.. but normally come at a cost.. not all developers
look forward to putting out some extra $$$ for so little.

i was not saying Java will not succeed on the Palm.. with the current
stage of development (of the tools - JVM etc).. it might not be a wise
step for a whole heap of developers..

  one day.. it will.
