No, we can't. That's the same as saying everything is OK as it is now, there's
no room for imporvements.
Everytime there's a good discussion about language merits, there's some guy
pointing out that it should be discussed somewhere else, and it is wasting
bandwidth, etc. I strongly believe that it is from this kind of discussions
that real issues are raised, and evolution is achieved.
No single person throughly knows every language. In this case, Steve has a much
more profound knowledge of Smalltalk than I do. I learned OO programming using
smalltalk, but don't use it as an everyday programming language. He raised very
good points about Java, and although we strayed from the issue - whether Java
is any good for the Palm - it was a very interesting discussion.

You can't do that, simply because it would be tying the KVM to a single OS.
They should use the PalmOS as much as possible, without compromising
portability. Rember that the Palm has serious limitations (like to 12Meg
addressing space limit), and Java is the best solution for escaping them
(change the OS underneath the KVM and you're done), but only if it doesn't
depend seriously on the existing OS.
