  of course it is possible.. hence the word "tedious" :P
  - i have not seen the code for Backdrop, but surely it would be nicer
  if there was a register.. it was not me asking the question, and i 
  dont have the time to search the API's myself.. 

  double buffering could be a, but very slow, solution. (definately
  worst case)
