my life does not rely on Java. i have nothing against Java,
my main point is that it is NOT READY yet... (to a point
where I WOULD PERSONALLY want to use it on the Palm)

actually.. i played with it.. noticed how DAMN SLOW it was
(well, that is no surprise) - i also noticed the lack of
classes provided (at least they had Threading)..

i DID look at the KVM before i removed it.. i was not impressed..
thought it was TOO unstable to bother.. so i removed it..

JavaOne this year was VERY dissapointing.. overcrowded, and too
much focus on PDA's.. (hence the Palm V giveaway).

  i agree..

simplicity can STILL BE done.. right now, if you want to program
for PalmOS (esp. GUI's).. there is NO common ground between
  development environments..

CW has its OWN binary format for resources, and PILRC can be
a bit messy.. a nice little layout manager and the ABILITY to
easially create custom components would be nice.

i was not asking for the FULL WORKS.. ie: tables, etc. etc.
if the KVM gave me every function call in the PalmOS
libraries (database etc).. and a few management functions..
  that would be nice.

you will probably never resize your screen - so the full
usage of a layout manager may not be so important.. but how
much fun do you have in CW or PILRC when you want to have a
  window that looks like this:

    +------------+ +-----------+
    | | |
    +------------+ or: | x ........
    | | | | | x ........
    | | | | | x ........
    +------------+ |
    | | |
    +------------+ +-----------+

are you goign to MANUALLY resize them in CW resource editor?
or MANUALLY program it in PILRC?

it would be nice if the Java VM could have this BASIC organization
structure available. it would take 5 lines of code (and you wont
  have to worry about positions)..

and accessing .PDB files? it would BE PERFECT if they had a JDBC
driver! (or something at least implementing the java.sql package).
  is this available?

Java is meant to be "consistant" accross platforms.. this is
what i TEACH.. and Sun has screwed up big time with the
Micro Editions.. they COULD do it.. but they seemed to have
left a lot of good things out (prob to save space).

> If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you

  maybe you SHOULD try again?

it is people like you that ruin these discussions.. i remember
the first topic was "i heard Java is available, should i use it".

i answered solidly with "NO - it is NOT ready yet"..

if you wish to flame me further about your own preference of
language etc.. then keep it to yourself.. at least i feel
happy when i get a personal email saying:

"thankyou, it would have been nice if i heard this earlier"

i was not saying you should never consider it (as it WOULD be
nice to have some decent Java VM on the palm)..

you are the negative one.. try seeing it from a open
viewpoint? with every email discussion this i did mention
i INTEND to use it when it suits my needs..

ie: i was not saying "Java on PalmOS SUX"

i like Java.. and i have been using it for a long time now
(nearly three and a half years).. i know what it can do..
and when i saw KVM for the first time.. i was very dissapointed.

that was my comment.. if you dont like my comments..
  then simply ignore them..

  cheers.
