Just to clarify is there a consensus about which is the best (or which are
the best) book(s) for palm programming?
I have experience with just two books:
O'Reilly's Palm Programming and Sams Teach yourself palm programming in 24
hours
The O'Reilly's book is good, however, I believe it jumps around too much to
be truly effective and does not go into enough detail about some of (what I
believe to be key) points of true palm programming. In short: "It's too
complicated for a novice, but not in-depth enough for someone who needs to
program for a living". I will point out however, that it is helpful to
those who know the basics (of palm programming), but aren't at the level in
which they can sit down and write a program from scratch (so perfect as a
casual glance book).
Sam's (in 24 hours book) is in short a book that just scratches the surface
on the various programs you can use to develop for the palm. It basically
just points you in the direction of which program would be useful for the
specific palm program your going to write (satellite forms, code warrior,
etc.). You will not be able to write a program of any usefulness after
reading that book, but you may find save money buying this book rather than
buying a program that you end up fining useless. I, however, knew I was
going to use codewarrior so there ya go.
If anyone else can give a summary of the other programming books (including
the authors of their own books -- as to who might want to read it) I'd
appreciate it, because I'm always interested in finding a good book to help
in my education :-)
