In that case, it sounds like either the small ROM is shot, which means it's
RMA time, or your screen electronics is shorting out.
Try the suggestion about reinserting the memory board and also check the
web page (below) about the PalmPro/PalmIII shorting problem. You may need
to insert a small piece of paper or plastic between the motherboard and
screen electronics. If those don't work, then it sounds like RMA time.
