As an aside, Bluetooth might be an answer. Bluetooth is coming RSN. I don't
like version 1.0 products but the betas I saw demoed at the N+I conference
in Las Vegas earlier this year looked good. 3Com had a Bluetooth enabled
Palm V talking to a Bluetooth enable Ericson cell phone, and Axis had a
Bluetooth card in an IBM Thinkpad talking to a Bluetooth access server
(looks like an Axis 560 Print Server). The pieces are there ... and they are
working, now if only the bastards would release the damn things. Sorry, I'm
getting impatient,.

Heh, you need a Symbol Spectrum 24 system with a SPT 1740!
Scan a code, send it to the Spectrum 24 server, which would be
running a server side database that gets updated via the web, and
use the code as a primary key.
(I imagine they store this data on an intranet, and not directly
on the web...)
Can't think of a simpler solution than that for your users...they
can Hotsync their 1740's just about anywhere, too.
