I used a Palm application once, and can't quite recall the name,
which would show you the character you wrote for a brief a fraction of a
second, then change it to an asterisk. If someone was looking over your
shoulder, they'd see a row of asterisks, and perhaps catch the letter you
were writing at that second, but they couldn't see the whole password. It's
sort of a middle-ground approach to mask vs. not designs.
