Is it an off the shelf component, or something they have the source to?  It
should be simple for them to modify, if the source is available.

I realize that.  And in theory a user should know enough to return to finish an
edit if they jumped out to look up a phone number or whatever.  But that is
theory.  If the user did not return to finish it up, this method would still
just be a gentle reminder to go do so first, then return and Hot Sync again.

The main benefit being you don't have the concern over syncing incomplete data
while at the same time permitting the customary ability of a Palm user to change
active applications at will.

As noted elsewhere, the server design better accomodate a complete loss of data
on the Palm too.
