Mm, then I'm highly unconvinced that Portage-style lock files are a good solution -- security and reliability aside, if they were the right answer I'd expect to see a lot more traditional Unixy applications using similar methods... So we're back to use cases. Against what precisely are we trying to protect? -- Ciaran McCreesh
