You'll find that there are people who work in Tracy, quite a few miles East,
who work in Palo Alto and commute every day. Crockett to San Jose. Gilroy to
South San Francisco.

101 is indeed the first of two main routes down the West side of the bay,
but it gets to the South end and turns SouthEast just past Moffet Field/NASA
Ames. It crosses within a quarter mile or so of the North end of Mineta San
Jose International and zips between the airport and Paypal, then East of
downtown. Then it crosses I-680/I-280. As it leaves the SouthEast corner of
the bay area, it and CA-85 join, heading down to Morgan Hill and Gilroy.
(Look at Morgan Hill or Gilroy for lodging.)

Sure, it's in "Fremont". But around here, you'll see many companies
scattered all around. IBM is in Morgan Hill, Almaden/San Jose, Sunnyvale,
and four other locations. Apple is in a few locations- they've taken over
one of HP's buildings near I-280 and Wolfe, for what it's worth. HP is still
part of that area. EMC\2 (EMC Squared) is in Pleasanton, Santa Clara, Walnut
Creek, and others. Genentech is in South San Francisco, Redwood City, and
Vacaville (and others).

So, that's why I mentioned all the places. Everything spreads out.

Welcome to the Bay area. We'll have to get everyone together some weekend.
