It wasn't the Canon model I really wanted, but *no one* had it, not even Canon. This one was in stock at the local Fry's Electronics with a happy-size rebate. It's a beast of a printer, and even has wheels at the back so you can keep it stowed against a wall and roll it out to feed the large and heavy stuff through from the front.
