No, the computer is the transmitter, it transmits over the wi-fi network.  The 
Airport Express is a base station and transmits/receives as a base station 
would over a Wi-fi network, only difference is with the Airport Express is that 
it has an analogue/digital audio output for connection to an audio system, 
speakers or whatever so the audio your computer transmits is received by the 
Airport Express and brought out through the audio output.

The Airport Express unit has 2 other sockets, a USB connector for connection to 
external hard drives, printers and the like and a 100MBPS LAN connector for 
connection to a modem if you decide to use this device as the base station for 
your network, you could also connect other things to this port like other 
network devices, VOIP adapters, gaming consoles etc.

The Airport Express plugs directly into a power outlet a bit like a will plug 
pack.
