You're doing things the right way in streaming directly from your Mac Mini
via your digital cable so to best describe the Airport Express let's take
your situation a little further by supposing that you've taken your home
theatre system to another part of the house, connect an Airport Express to
your digital cable which is in tern connected to your Home Theatre System,
plug Airport Express in and set it up from your Mac Mini by using the
Airport Utility, you have the excellent sound quality you had before, only
difference is that you're quite some distance away from your Mac mini as
your Mac Mini is now transmitting your music digitally over your Wi-Fi
network, does that all make sense? I'm glad you like your digital
connections, wouldn't be without them now.

HI Dane,
I'm going to briefly describe my current setup with my Mac Mini:
I have it connected to my home theeater via the digital optic connection
using the optic cable I purchased via Apple recommendation from Radio
Shakc.
I'm getting the impression the convertor you speak of is a transmittor
to
allow your sounds to be played in other rooms and has nothing to do with a
direct connection to a home theater system.
I ask, because I am a junky for audio sound and always strive for better
sound quality, but I don't stream music throughout my home as of yet. by
next summer however, I would like the ability to stream outside onto my
patio for my leisure time, BBQs, yardwork and etc. smile!

You're right there! I'm telling people now! they just don't know what
there missing and they'll be craving for more! once they've heard their
audio through one of these things, even better! if they can take advantage
of a direct digital link, even the latest versions of Audio Bluetooth are
pretty good but of course range and lack of flexibility are a problem with
that system..
I have to admit, I'm yet to play with Airtunes.

Ah, that's what I've trying to tell people for a few years now, but it
seems they like bad audio too much.

Hi folks!
As list members would know I have an Airport Express base station
here,
well now I have 2 as a matter of fact. One thing that these Base stations
allow is for the connection of an audio device, you can for example
connect
the output of the Airport Express to a Hi-Fi setup using either an
analogue
or digital connection hence these devices can handle your wi-Fi traffic
and
give you crystal-clear audio into a particular room but what I didn't know
was that you can have a source piped to multiple Airport Express units at
the one time using Itunes so time to throw those ancient FM transmitters
away, no risk of interference, or distortion any more! just nice sounding
audio noise and distortion free wherever I go in my house or within range
of
my wi-fi network.
To checkout the Airport express go to www.apple.com/airportexpress and
you can see the specs and other details.
If you don't feel like using Itunes? Sure! use Airfoil and you can
Stream Winamp or any other application that generates audio to your
Airport
Express.
As a final note, I'm thinking of doing a series of Podcasts on the
Airport Express and associated software, would anyone be interested?
