Hehe - I wouldn't say the need to reboot when a screen freezes is totally
eliminated in X. Maybe greatlly reduced, but not eliminated. Gotta love
(hate!) those kernel panics. ;-)

Many times in 9.1, an app crashes and I just relaunch it. Now granted,
some time down the road, I may be forced to restart because memory way
down in the System is trashed from the initial crash, but usually I can
save other work I'm doing and restart gracefully, instead of the whole
computer taking a dive.
