I've been a Mac fan since my first Mac Plus back in 1987, but I'll be
honest with you. I really don't agree with any of these weak arguments
against OS X. Unix has been continually evolving, unlike the Mac OS (until
OS X). Honestly, what major breakthroughs have come to the Mac since OS
7??? The only one that immediately comes to mind is the multithreaded
finder, circa OS 7.5 and that was something that was way overdue itself.
Really. I mean what things did OS 8 or 9 bring to the table that where
truly groundbreaking? I can't think of one thing. Certainly not Sherlock.
There were impovements, I'll agree, but hardly anything earth shattering,
and definitley nothing that would lure the Wintel crowd to the fold. Apple
tried forever to bring us a true preemptive multitasking OS, and I believed
those promises even though they always turned out to be vaporware. The only
way I was finally able to satisfy my desire for a robust OS on the Mac
platform was to run BeOS, and later, Linux.
But with OS X, that's all changed and I can honestly say that I'm not
afraid to say that I'm a Mac user in front of my peers. OS X is not
perfect, but then I can't think of an OS that is. One thing is certain,
though, it truly IS a step in the right direction.
>MacOSX will be a great OS when it will be easy to troubleshoot AND hard
>to hack as the MacOS is. Or it will only remain another (nice) flavour of
>UNIX. The OLD, OLD UNIX.
