John,
Sniff. . .I miss my Amiga 1200/040 now. :( I ended
up selling it in '97 after finally accepting
Commodore's demise. Please don't yell at me. . .it
was the hardest decision of my life. I'll always miss
my trusty Amiga. But on to all this multitasking talk
and OS X. Being a native Amiga user since '86 and Mac
user since '87. . .(yea, I'm a computer geek), I can
honestly say that yes. . .multitasking is nice, and
I'm glad Apple has finally introduced the technology
to the Mac platform. . .and I'm impressed overall at
the "look and feel" of OS X. But that's where it
ends. I can't help but be pissed off over Apple's
"unsupported" crap and calling my modern OS (9.0.4)
"Classic" and basically saying, "you want X. . .spend
another thousand and you'll get it". When I bought OS
9 when it came out I was excited. I was looking
foward to all the promises of version 10 with
multitasking and UNIX driven technology. . .I couldn't
wait to use my upgrade coupon I got with 9. . .like
I've done for years when moving up the OS scale.
Then, OS X is announced. . .and so is Apple's offical
statement saying basically that my PowerMac 9500/150
that cost me $5,000.00 in '96 is now a paper weight. .
.upgrade to a whole new computer. I was apalled. I
wanted to slap Steve Jobs. I wanted to sell all of my
computer stuff and just live modemless on some island.
But, being a thick skinned former Amiga user, I got
over it and so did Sonnett, who now offers a plugin
giving all of us who are unsupported a chance to run
OS X. Please let me know those of you who take this
route about your experiences. As far as being
"unsupported". . .well let me just say that Apple has
NEVER been able to help me in a problem since '87.
They either hang up on me, or tell me to upgrade. In
otherwords, I'm pissed at Apple, but I'll live. :)
