Thank you all for your wonderful advise. . .but it
seems after hearing what all of you would do, I'm
right back where I started. Here's a breakdown of my
current system; I've got a PowerMac 9500/150 that I
purchased new in '96 for $5,327.52 after tax. I'm
still running the stock 604 processor at 150 Mhz.
I've added USB via a PCI card, which I've got my Epson
printer connected to via a parallel/USB adapter, and
my UMAX USB scanner. I was considering a USB hub in
the near future for a possible Zip drive, etc., but
that brings up another important point. It seems the
new Zip and Jaz drives are "USB powered" which may
bring up another reason to go with a newer Mac.
Iomega states that these "USB powered" drives only
work with "native" USB PowerMacs. Hmmm. So, if I
kept my system, I would obviously grab a SCSI Zip
drive from Iomega. But how many more years am I going
to be able to do that? Plus, I use the infamous Apple
Adjustable Keyboard and after Apple was sued millions
of dollars for this keyboard, I think it's safe to
assume there won't be any new ones for the "modern"
Macs. Oh sure, I can by a USB to ADB adapter, but
then I'd feel like I just should have kept my "native
ADB" Mac. . .. Well folks, as you can see, I'm kind
of wishing I wasn't coming across this money now. I
may just slap in a Cresendo G4/450 in my 9500 and
stuff it full of RAM and go from there. Heck, If I
decide to sell it or something, eBay is a shiny
storefront for these "oldie but goodie" Macs. Oh yea,
I've also got the Quicktake 200 digital camera which I
paid $600.00 for just a few months after buying my
9500. It would also need an adapter for the new Macs,
but then I wouldn't mind replacing that thing. .
.horrible quality when it comes to moving objects.

So here I am. . .still confused. I guess it all comes
down to what you really NEED the computer to do and
what you WANT the computer to do. I may just cram 1.5
gigs of RAM in this (9500) and the G4 card along with
a Radeon graphics card and play some of the awsome
games out there. . .but then I don't even play games
on my computer. . .that's what my PS2 is for. All I
use my computer for is graphic/web design and all of
the top design programs, i.e., Photoshop, Dreamweaver,
QuarkXpress, etc. What I really do need is more RAM
even more than a faster processor. Of course the
processor goes without saying. But right now I've got
512Megs of RAM interleaved and it works. . .most of
the time. . Photoshop can be VERY demanding, and in
the near future I can see a need for a CD-R/RW drive,
which isn't a problem for the 9500's. Hmmm. . .still
deciding. . .thanks folks for your info, and keep
telling me what you think I should do!
