you can't hurt your Mac giving it a try. I have used 9.1 on several
different types of Macs with even less Ram. They ran excruciatingly slow and
were somewhat unstable ( freezes and crashes ), but with sufficient VM
turned on would run ok. With DSL, surfing the net was still much, much
faster than ordinary modem phone cnx. 8.6 should not be a problem tho. It
should provide all that you need and at much faster speeds with the amt of
mem you have.
