Related though slightly different topic: I have a Powermac/Performa 5300 in the kids' room. It's an all-in-one and has a similar form factor to the 5400 and 5500 (I believe that you can put a 5500 logic board into the 5300). Anyway, the 5300 has 64MB of memory and is now running 8.1. It doesn't have an ethernet port, though my next-door Mac dealer has a 10BT PDS-slot ethernet card, which should work in the 5300. I was thinking of giving the 5300 ethernet in order to connect it to our DSL connection; other Macs on the home network are a Lombard powerbook and a Yosemite G3, both with 9.2.1. Our DSL provider says any Macs we use must have OS 9.x. Any chance I could get 9.0.4 on the 5300? Or could I ignore the recommendation for a "minimum" of 9.x? Thanks for any help.
