When I got dsl earlier this year, from PacBell/SBC, I had OS 8.6 installed
on my PowerMac clone, and the PPPoE client that SBC supplied, which was
Enternet 300 v.1.09, worked fine.

I now use an SMC Barricade dsl router, and no longer need or use the
Enternet software. The router provides a firewall, so I no longer need to
log off the dsl connection, which seemed to be the main function of
Enternet. The router automatically handles PPPoE. Also, I can access the dsl
modem from any computer on my home network, through the router. It's cool.

Cheers,
Kenji
