Using DHCP? I do DSL tech support for Earthlink (including some home networking stuff with 2Wire routers) and I've never had a problem with 8.5/8.6. MacOS 8.1 will usually work, but I have had problems with it. I can't say for sure about this particular router, but 2Wires will allow you to specify the info instead of getting it from DHCP. The way it usually seems to work is there is a range of IPs set for DHCP and another range for statics (the 2Wire has something like 172.16.0.2-136 for DHCP and 137-255 for static, I'm a little rusty :) ). At any rate, conventional wisdom around work says to have at least 8.5, but <=8.1 can work sometimes. I'm the Mac Geek of the area I'm in so I seem to have a way with Macs that other people just don't have :) I would suspect that if you upgraded the OT in 7.5.x and 8.1 that it would likely be just as stable as 8.5/8.6. And 9 is just fine of course, though it's probably not suited for older Macs. Regards, Scott Holder -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
