Speculation from a "mix and match" veteran here: since TCP/IP is part of Open Transport, which is (largely) independent of the OS version... If you need the small memory footprint of 8.1, you can install OT from the OS 8.5/8.6 installer into OS 8.1 - it will probably work just fine. Has anyone tried it...? -- Gene, a.k.a.
