You shouldn't have even been able to insert that memory if it really is 100Mhz SDRAM, as all that's 3.3 volt, and the 168pin DIMM spec has a key on the RAM for what voltage it is, so you can't insert ram of the wrong voltage and fry it. You *do* need 5 volt RAM.
If (7,8,9)(3,5,6)(0,5)0 macs could take 100Mhz SDRAM, we'd not be complaining about memory prices on this here list so often. :-) The speaker makes a "shussh" sound it never made before? Borrow some known-good memory from someone if you can and try again. Sounds like either the memory or the motherboard is bad. Also, if that's the 12" monitor that came with the LC, it won't work with the 8500 onboard video.
