There are various things, probably the favorite is TechTool. Would 
definitely be a good thing to do.

If they typically run close to their max, it could. Especially the browser.

With that much RAM, might as well leave it off. Tends to stabilize things 
in my experience. If you run into problems, turn it on but

Eh, probably wouldn't help much for those apps. If you use any graphics 
apps or the like, might be worth setting up, but probably not really 
necessary. You can set it up from the Memory control panel
