I have had more trouble out of a USB cd burner than I ever have out of any
extrernal SCSI device. Apparently, the little Iomega ZipCD 650 USB wants to
be connected directly to the machine (PM 7500/Sonnet 450 G3) and not to the
Belkin 4 port hub. I keep getting "The connection became unstable" errors
about 3 minutes into the burn. I record cassettes to the hard drive (18GB
7200RPM Quantum SCSI) and them burn them to disc. Three coasters in a row!
My old 540MB external SCSI LaCie HD NEVER gave me any trouble on the old
LC475. Neither did the old external SCSI 3x NEC CD ROM drive.
I have an Epson printer, a Kodak camera, a Microtek scanner and that hateful
Iomega burner all connected to the hub which in turn is connected to a I/O
Gear KVM switch. The USB card is an Ariston. The computer actually slows
down when I hit the switch to use the devices on my machine. And the Iomega
is the only thing turned ON! Driver issue, maybe? I use Toast Titanium to
burn. All of the iTunes extensions are disabled.
Before I decide to use the CD burner for target practice, can anyone tell me
if they've had bad experience with SCSI burners?
Or is FireWire the way to go?
