Here I find the PCI bus in older Power Macs, pre G3, is slow and can cause intermittent or consistent failure. Printers work fine, but CD burners and scanners, no. SCSI is ideal, never a problem. I use SCSI on my G3 upgraded 7600, no problems with a Lacie burner, Microtek scanner, Polaroid slide scanner, zip, external HD.
