I appreciate all the suggestions so far but I'm most intrieged by
kenta's response....

How would you know if the Preferences FOLDER itself got corrupted?
What problems would you see to lead you to that conclusion???

 Gail  ...who is concluding that ALL preferences rebuild themselves.
