John,
Tell us what you are trying to share and how long
you wait for the sharing to start.

My PM 7500 with a 2GB SCSI drive will start sharing
in around 30 seconds after startup. My Sawtooth with
a 30GB and a 60GB ATA100 drive takes around
20 minutes before it decides to start sharing.

I've always assumed that the time it takes to
share is a function of how many files and folders
need to be readied for sharing.

Try this as an experiment:
Turn off sharing for all your drives and instead
just select one folder on one drive to share.
That should start up file sharing much quicker.
Then you can decide what else you need to share
or how long you are willing to wait.
