Wilton,
The 9GB size is not a problem.  I have a 9, and a 4.3 in my 7500 OS9.1.
Many others on this list have told of 18GB drives in their PowerMacs.

Do you have it terminated?  Without a terminator, it may act strangely.
Does it have a second connector on the back for a scsi terminator
like this one?
