great monitor! I personally dunno about 6360s since I've never had one but
will help in what I can...

ooooh! too bad, I remember the day my father brought me a few Mac Pluses
back in 1991, the first thing I did was crack them open after I went to
Sears to get the right screwdriver, a kitchen knife helped to crack them
open. First thing I ever fixed was the disk drive! I replaced a bad one
with the one of one of the Mac Plus which screen was bad (with real
excitement) I was SO PROUD! I was only 14!! I removed the RAM from the
broken one and put it on the one that had no RAM. My father, even though he
knew the value of the computers, let me fiddle around with them. Out of 6;
4 were OK at the end, the one with bad screen and one that I had tested but
tried removing the cover with power on, something on board fried and gave a
'pop' sound. Too bad, however I learned my lesson to be careful and forever
became fearless of my Macs and was able to keep three after I gave one away
to some ungreatful neighbors, who never used it and ended up selling it to
the first one that came by, instead of giving it back to me :-\. Which made
me pretty upset since it made me feel they did not appreciate my gift at
all, and they just used it for profit! cheap people.

I started early at 14, I don't know how early or late it is for you, some
middle aged people start low (meaning the old macs) as well, can't tell.
(and I've known about 8-9 year old kids getting on the technical stuff,
which is a very early start)
The first list I joined was the Quadlist back about 4 years ago when (I
believe) LowEndMac was just starting. I got to say half of my experience I
have these days I've learned from these lists. keep it up!

sorry you couldn't get your 2300 to work, BTW you're not alone. I own:
(from oldest to newest) Mac 512, Mac Plus, Mac II, LC II, Mac IIci, MacIIsi,
MacIIfx, Centris 650, PowerMac 6100/66, Performa 475, PowerMac 8500/150 (not
to bribe too much but I've got to admit this is the best Mac I've ever had
for its age!) and my new adquisition a G3 333Mhz (can't match my 8500 in A
LOT of things). Why do I have so many you ask? This is basically my hobby
and sometimes my job. Oh I forgot about my newest adquisition sorry my
mistake (fanfare please!) a PowerBook Duo 270C with Duo Dock yeah! Someone
on the lists helped me get this one since I swaped my PowerBook 1400CS for
it and other great things, I've got to say I am not a PowerBook person since
I don't go out much but an oldie I definitely can use, my son loves it! My
toughest mac to fix was a PowerBook duo 230 which needed a harddrive
replacement (some people may stay away from such tasks on an early duo)
really NOT and easy task, I wouldn't suggest anyone to do it unless they
have experience with PowerBooks (I mean extensive) I remember someone
telling me, "most people who do a harddrive swap on a duo usually end up
with broken duos, the plastics can break, I know someone who broke the
screen with the screwdriver trying to get the hinges plastics out" (not
because they're weak but because of the force you have to do to get them
out). whew! sold it in eBay like many others, but I've go to admit it
wasn't easy selling it after accomplishing so much with it, I don't think I
ever want to do that kind of repair again. Too risky, too hard... well I
hope my 270C behaves good, she's been good so far (knock on wood).

It should work, all you need is the driver for StyleWritter 2500 (not such
thing as a 2400 driver, the 2500 is the one) which is installed most of the
times by the OS.

upon powering the machine up look into the "About this Macintosh" to see
what's really in there who knows maybe you've hit the jackpot!

Don't worry sit, play around, do & undo, you know you can't go wrong with
macs, 8.1 and 8.5.1 were pretty stable on my 8500, of course don't dump
anything from the system folder you don't know, you'll be ok.

you don't really need coaching, it comes naturally, I never had anyone show
me how to use new OS, as I said before experiment a little ;)

did you look into www.everymac.com?
do so it will help you get to know what your "new" mac came with and should
have. I see 160Mhz 603e (perhaps a little slower than my 8500/150Mhz with
604 processor since my 4400/200Mhz with 603e I used to have was pretty much
the same speed in some tasks). The 8500 had one of the worst case designs
however is a matter of getting used to or getting over it, if you break
somethin off the MoBo while opening the case. It happened to me on my
previous 8500/120, :(

Hey! enjoy it yourself and let him know what you accomplish. Still a lot of
people can never ever overcome their fear. A fact.
