Any manufacturer is OK as long as they are 5v 168 pin, FPM, 70 ns or faster
(most are 60 ns these days which is faster than the 70 ns and thus OK.) You
can upgrade one slot at a time and can use up to 128 Meg DIMMs in each
slot. Do not use EDO RAM. It can damage your computer. Use FPM only.

Once opened, you'll find the CD drive under the Floppy drive on the right
and an empty hard drive bay under the filled hard drive bay on the left
side. Your basic drive should be ID 0, and the CD drive ID 3. (double check
by single clicking the hard drive icon on the desktop and "Get Info" from
the "File" menu. The hard drive's SCSI ID will be displayed in the window
that appears. Some Macs used ID 2 for the startup drive, so double check.
Apple Profiler will also list the drive IDs in OS 9.x, but I don't remember
if 8.5/6 does.) Use any other number for the new drive and do not terminate
it. After working with 8.6 for a bit, you'll probably want to upgrade your
8.5 as well. 8.6 was much more stable.
