Hi Jerry! Thanks for the help. Steve Larson, who was having posting trouble, helped me off-list. An older-type sled who's screw holes lined up alright with this 4.5 GB drive, was obscurring the ID, termination and assorted pins. I'v made sure termination is disabled and the ID set to 4. My startup drive is at the ribbon's end and terminated I would presume.
I've got the cover off and it's the empty bay just BELOW the floppy that's waiting for a new drive. I hadn't noticed the last and only time I was in there to replace the battery, that there is a separate available power plug (yes, the white one :) that is available. There is one that is crimped onto the power lines running to my main drive that wouldn't reach up high enough to be useable in this empty bay above. I guess that one is for two thinner drives stacked in the lower bay. >Does it have the sled or some sort of bracket attached, usually >over/protecting the exterior circuit board ?? I can see where this metal sled does a good job of protecting the circuit board and so if I file just the right amount off two upper metal side clips and maybe put some split surgical tubing on them I'll have a nice snug fit against the shelf above. Don't worry I'm an ace welder so I know how to work with this stuff physically. I'll put a bumper on either side to eliminate side play. So, oh more experienced ones, should I enable the "Wait/Spin Option" (WS pins) so that at "power on" the drive motor will wait for a host, "start/stop unit" command before spinning up ?
