not true

not true at all - check the Road Apples listing on lowendmac.com
the 6400 and 6500 replaced the earlier 62/6300 series which did have
some major problems, but they didn't inherit them, starting afresh
with a brand new motherboard design.

>was also offered a 7300/180/64RAM with monitor for around the same price and

Both are good machines, and simple CPU upgrades to 200+ mHz 604s, G3s
and G4s are available, unlike the 6500 with it's soldered-in CPU,
which will only take the more expensive cache-slot G3 upgrades. 3
full-size PCI slots, unlike the 6500s one half-size and one
full-size. If these differences and the monitor makes up for the
much slower initial speed, go for it.

The 7x00s don't have the 6500's nifty subwoofer though :-) And ask
the seller if it has the TV/Video card installed too, a small but
handy bonus ;-)
