I might be going down the wrong road, but what kind of monitor? I had a problem with a monitor that the machine couldn't autosense. Another thing to try is to hold command-option-o-f at boot up-- I think this may need a monitor capable of 640x480 on a 7300. Then typing "boot" (I think... it's been a while) might start the machine.
