A great idea indeed, I second it.  Try holding Option + * + P + R on
startup, or as my troubleshooting book says (and Dana suggested) check the
monitor.  I've found more info in my technical book, it says here that if
the mac has a graphic card in a PCI expansion slot to open the mac up and
make sure the card is properly seated.

I am fresh out of ideas...
