First, I thought you'd all enjoy this quote that my one daughter (a Mac user naturally) sent me.
"Never ask a man what kind of computer he drives. If it's a Mac, he'll tell you. If not, why embarass him?" -Tom Clancy OK, now on to my questions.I'm getting near the end of completing my 8600. It currently has an XLR8 G4/450, a Gig of ram, Sonnet Tempo Trio, Skyline PCI adapter, running OS9.1 with Open GL 1.2.1, and when I feel daring, OSX 10.1.5 on my 20" monitor. I just got an ATI Radeon Mac Edition (not the 7000) and installed it. I downloaded and installed the 1.1.1 drivers from ATI's web site. Every time I try to open the ATI monitor's control panel, it eventually comes back with a "ATI displays cannot find any ATI product". My monitor is working, hooked up to the ATI card, but I cannot use the ATI panel. Initial testing shows the card to be much slower than the built in video. Anybody have any suggestions? I'm starting to be concerned about overheating issues, so, to those of you who have modded your 8600, what cooling mods have you come up with? Any cheap easy ways to monitor CPU, video card or ambient temperature inside the case? Hi or Lo tech? Any recommendations as to which card should go in which slot. Currently I have the wireless adapter closest to the CPU, the Trio card in the center, and the ATI card at the bottom. (relatively lots of space in front of the ATI fan, although there are two drives on the bottom. Lastly, I have an old 14" multisync just sitting around. I hooked it up, and now have two displays. Any tips or tricks to take it past the "Wow, that's cool!" phase? If I hook up a TV to the video out port, will I be presented with a third piece of desktop space? Is there a limit to the number of monitors (outside of number of ports) that can be used at the same time? TIA Happy New Year! STeve -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
