The ATI card is slower than built-in because the acceleration isn't working. Doesn't the built-in video use ATI acceleration as well? Maybe there's a conflict. Try disabling the built-in video extensions and OpenGL 1.2.1 and reinstalling the ATI card software and see what happens. > > I'm starting to be concerned about overheating issues, so, to those of you > who have modded your 8600, what cooling mods have you come up with? My 9600 has a g4/450, 6 PCI cards that include hot Voodoo 5 and PC Compatibility cards, cdrw, and a 7200rpm Maxtor 30GB IDE mounted on the bottom plate. The outgoing air is barely warm. The xlr8 control panel indicates CPU temperature, as do free utilities such as Gauge Pro and Tattletech (Though they usually give different readings from each other. I just average them.) Don't know if there's a utility for video card temperature. If there is I'd like to know about it. For case temperature you need one of those case thermometers. > > Any recommendations as to which card should go in which slot. I had to do a bit of juggling before all the cards in the 9600 got along properly. > > Lastly, I have an old 14" multisync just sitting around. I hooked it up, and > now have two displays. Any tips or tricks to take it past the "Wow, that's > cool!" phase? Find an application that displays different things on each monitor, I guess. If you install a PC card you can have the PC environment on the second monitor. -+-+-+- RPM -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
