Dear List:

A friend just purchased a headset for chatting online. The headphone section
works perfectly well on his 8500. The 8500 is running OS 9.2.2, has a Sonnet
G3 350 card, and 320 MB RAM installed. The headset is plugged into the
headphone and microphone mini-jacks (3.5 mm), but the headphone section is
the only part that works when attached to the 8500. The microphone section
does not. There is simply no audio coming through the microphone. I tested
this headset on my G4 and both the microphone and headphone sections work
fine.

I'm wondering if the microphone mini-jack input is defective or completely
dead. When I jiggled this mini-jack in its receptacle, there is some
response in the Sound Control Panel under the Input tab with the Check
Signal Level box checked. A few of the indicators do light up.

If this port is defective or dead, can I attach the microphone through the
RCA jacks at the back of the 8500 with the appropriate adapter plug?

Roland :)
