is it an apple headset ? I maybe do not remember correctly - but the 
mac microphones had long ago earth on line and vice verse or 
something like that compared with a PC, what happens if you choose 
built in mic in the cp ?
using an ordinairy mike over a tapedeck and into the mac line will 
make better quality sound i am sure, the mike in is much more 
sensitive than the rca unless it's one of those that automatically 
sets the input level, check the specs ?
