It's perhaps best to check the dimms out at chipmunk as some of the
older OEM dimms have a higher spec than the later crop as they were very
expensive in their time. I paid an Apple technician 300 GBP (450
dollars?)for 4x4 MB sticks for my 11VX and at that they were almost half
the retail price of 125 GBP each plus 17 and a half percent tax -
staggering ain't it?

The general wisdom is that 60ns is faster than 70 or 80 and 4k
refresh is poorer than 2k or 1k - I have some 60ns 1k refresh 8/16 meg
dimms from quite a while ago made by SEC and Texas Instruments and they
are troublefree as I guess logic dictates that ram can meet slower speeds
than it's spec but cannot meet higher than spec - I have yet to find that
out but the maths of the lowest common denominator and all that make it
highly probable.
So if you have 4 16 meg 60ns and one new 128 meg 70ns the 128 will
drive down the performance of the 16's - but if they are all 60 or 70 no
problem. Similarly with the refresh rates I presume - the worst stick
spoils the bank.
Ram probs can also be caused by bad spec as 3.3 volt dimms will run
in 5 volt slots and throw up only occasional errors - I've had two in my
Umax for a year.
