-- Dear Listmembers, This PCI card finally works, but I see it originally shipped with 'SofRaid' software, which I did not get and which seems to cost $159.95, if I have done my homework correctly. Often my 'homework answers are partially or not at all correct, so I am asking you. Since the card does see a 40MB IBM deskstar, do I need the software at all? Is termination critical with IDE devices? The speed increase in access to the HD is immediately and dramatically visible when I boot from that drive. This seems to demonstrate that the internal SCSI used by the 8600 is a potential bottleneck when using upgrade cards (i.e. the chain is as strong- or fast- as its weakest- or slowest link). Also, I have a Cendyne 24x10x40 CDRW drive on the card, but it does not show up on the desktop, or with SCSI Director, or with Toast 3.5.5. Cables are tight (power and 50-pin; audio out, etc. are not hooked up, since I could find no corresponding females in the bird's nest behind the bays). Information (particularly based on personal experience) would be appreciated greatly.
