What I meant was, I can boot the machine in 9, but the CD does not have a bootable 9 on it, just a .pkg file. >I been using Macs for 10 year now. OS 9 blew then, and it blows now. It >was old tech. X is the New Tech. That is all there is to it. Ue New >Tech, B/C the Old tech is going away fast. The system was only invented in 1984. How can it be old? UNIX was invented in 1960. You might like it, but it is not "new" for sure. >> I find X very hard on the eyes due to the irregular typography sort >> of like on a PC. >Irregular typography? Yes, like when you first get a new machine (the system 9 variety) the text is blurry until you turn OFF font smoothing. Otherwise, you get that thick/thin syndrome that makes me crazy. On X you can not turn this off above size 12. SO I have to keep everything at 12 which is too small for me, at resolutions higher than 1024. >No OS is perfect. If they were, they would stop making new ones. But >using something a lame as 'irregular typography' to explain it away is >just that...freaking LAME. Why? I don't like the blurry font. Maybe if we submit a report they will fix it. >If you must complain, complain about the >random Bus Error system bombs in OS 9. I understand this because even on Macs this can happen if you have IE open and use the software update! >Complain about OS X 10.2 >has a shit fit if you try to boot OS 9 (this is true, I cannot make 9 >boot my B&W anymore since 10.2, nor my 8600.). Mine boots fine. I always have to go to 9 because of something X can not do, so I can't give it up any time soon. > If you are going to >waste time coming up with a reason to dislike something, it need to be >good. Like, "Mac OS X turned into a red-headed devil and ate my file >and hard disk." Well, it did but I am sure you don't want to hear about it :-) >That would be cool. BUT 'IRREGULAR >TYPOGRAPHY'!?!?!....I believe I have made my point... Are you calling me a liar? Try to turn off font smoothing above 12, you can't. And that makes for horrid looking text. Look in you Palm Desktop. Compare to the type in your appts calendar in the very same software for 9. There is no comparison. The text in 9 has no irregularities, the one in X does.....and that is hard on my eyes. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
