Some folk devote a whole volume to VM, this way you always know what you
have free for it in a block. You can partition a big disk to have one volume
about 1 gig or so and keep that for VM (even call it "VM"). No need to be
defragging to be sure that VM works well, just be sure to toss everything
off it before shutdown perhaps. All this, if indeed you need VM and it needs
contiguous hard disk space ...
