Agreed. The UltraTek/66 card is probably the best overall value, taking everything into account ... especially compatibility. This is the perhaps the only choice for 7200 machines, and it is the logical choice for 7500/7600 through Beige G3 machines. >> I don't think a Powermac 7500-7600 or Beige G3 can exploit more than what an ATA 66 offers with 7200 rpm, ATA 100 drives commonly available at good prices. >> True. The internal transfer rate of most of these cards is limited to about 40 MB/sec. It matters little what the so-called external transfer rate of the attached drive(s) is/are if the controller is architecturally limited to about 40 MB/sec. 7200 rpm makes sense as these all have a lower latency time, although these do not necessarily have a faster external transfer rate as these transfer from their internal cache (usually 2 or 8 MB) to the external controller (which utilized a FIFO buffer). I buy whatever UATA/100 or UATA/133 drive gives me the most storage for the least $$$, and is also 120 MB or less (the 137 MB limit, don't you know). -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
