Certain ACARD controllers are true "dual platform" and the manufacturer
has made available firmware for both PC and Mac plaforms.

Promise does not market a Mac platform controller, per se. However,
Promise does manufacture cards which are branded and sold by others
specifically for the Mac platform. These cards utlize certain Promise LSI
chips.

Because certain early Promise PC controllers were "diverted" to Mac use,
Promise, in order too protect its contracts, intentionally incorporated
into its later LSI chips certain features which made this "diversion"
diffcult.

Taking this to its ultimate end, current Promise LSI chips have different
part numbers for PC and Mac cards, therby making diversion nearly
impossible.
